New Vintage. On the right you can see Lew Ayres. The movie that made him a star, All Quiet on the Western Front, is of 1930, the same year of this picture. Ayres, pacifist, during the Second World War tried to enlist in the Red Cross: the military authorities refused. He declared himself to be conscientious objector and he was sent in the Pacific as a paramedic. He almost won the Oscar with Johnny Belinda (1948) but his career was already signed by the “shame”. Man of refined manners, he was refined in dressing as well. In the art of photography, the black and white gives back an unbeatable class. It’s easy to guess that Ayres’ look was in the shades of beige and khaki. His shoes, probably, were black. The modernity of this look is amazing. Despite 30s’ fashion is not a trend of this year’s s/s collections, that timeless style emerges in some shapes, volumes and shades. It won’t be difficult to find a similar jacket. It’s perfect, worn like this, with a pair of dark brogues and the shirt opened at the second button. It might be worth copying this outfit, which is wonderful. Outdoor. The parka with double hood, made of acid green cotton canvas, the round-neck sweatshirt with contrasting hems and the denim shirt. White sneakers with blue stripes and socks with a graphic pattern. An outdoor total look, perfect for the young British actor Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game, An Education) portrayed by Rankin. An alternative way of wearing colours, with a mood of fashionable free-time in contrast with the same old “jeans with grey sweatshirt”. But for the Over 30s (the maximum age allowed for such a strong menswear)? First of all, avoid the acid colours. Prefer sneakers with performing upper and non-colours, like white, black or grey. Trousers have to be mentioned apart, because there are a lot of them, but all the same and it’s easy to choose the usual chino or the denim 5pockets. But how many of them do you already have? If you’d like to buy new trousers for your free time, opt for some special details.

Davy Crockett & Billy Idol. Due stili molto diversi tra di loro; il primo è un cacciatore americano d’altri tempi, mentre l’altro sbircia le icone pop degli anni ’80. Per celebrare i 20 anni di sfilate menswear, i fratelli Caten rendono omaggio ad un immaginario maschile sexy e aggressivo.

CORNELIANI

Collezione riuscitissima. Belli anche casting e styling. Sergio Corneliani parte dal blu passando per le gamme del grigio fino al nero e al bianco avorio. Le stoffe sono ricche e “croccanti”. Applausi!

ERMENEGILDO ZEGNA COUTURE

La sfilata parte con i capospalla in tessuto trattato con resina ecologica. Tutto ciò che è sintetico, come il kaban in plastica, è ecosostenibile. Ma quel che più affascina è il concetto di Moda e di Eleganza di Stefano Pilati: la quintessenza di uno snobismo iper sofisticato. L’ennesima dimostrazione di un grande talento italiano.

PORTS 1961

Debutta Milan Vukmirovic e crea anche – e per il brand cino-canadese è la prima volta – una collezione di accessori. La moda di Ports1961 rielabora un mood street-americano. Bella e soprattutto sintonizzata sulla frequenza del menswear contemporaneo.

COSTUME NATIONAL HOMME

Il tradizionale color cammello abbinato con la pelle nera. Il bluette invece, per i look bohémienne. Una visione della moda urbana che guarda a Londra come a Parigi.

Riappaiono le iniziali, D G. Senso di appartenenza? Certo che si: appartenenza & famiglia. Gli stilisti invitano ad amarsi a chiare lettere, lo scrivono sui vestiti che sfilano. É stato uno spettacolo toccante. E la collezione è proprio bella.

ANDREA POMPILIO

Pompilio ha fatto goal. A questo giro, la sua collezione è completa, fresca, moderna e charmant,  senza cadute di tono. Senza troppi fronzoli, il designer costruisce dei look precisi e razionali. I contenuti moda ci sono e il risultato è davvero convincente.

JIL SANDER

Rodolfo Paglialunga conferma il suo talento firmando la prima collezione Jil Sander uomo. Ipercritico e intransigente con se stesso, Paglialunga dimostra di avere un senso dello stile innato, concreto e chirurgico. Il menswear che ha presentato è di straordinaria fattura, qualità, è decisamente innovativo ed eccellente da ogni punto di vista. Per di più, è assolutamente proponibile anche a livello commerciale. Cosa vogliamo di più? Bravo Rudi.

LES HOMMES

Notte e Vandebosch, puntano su pelle, maglieria e accessori. Le borse e gli zaini sono bellissimi e altrettanto riuscita è la collezione stessa: un’ ottima sintesi tra immagine e commerciale.

VERSACE

Rigorosamente lineare nelle silhouette militaresche dei cappotti, vistosa nella parte degli accessori, confortevole e avvolgente nel knitwear: il mood Versace cambia rotta e per concentrarsi su un prodotto meno impegnativo. Bellissimo lo styling.

Legend has it that Tom Ford dismissed out of hand one of his team’s designers due to his suggestion to include a short-sleeved shirt in the s/s collection. Actually, it’s not a really loved garment. Because it mustn’t be worn under the blazer (the cuff must always appear from the jacket’s sleeves), and it requires, in theory, tapered arms, that only a few have. But in the 40s and 50s it was in fashion, among style icons too. Well, this year the short-sleeved shirt is back: with floral/tropical prints, made of silk and viscose or cotton and linen. In the first case, it’s soft and fluid, suitable for an eccentric, young and self-confident man; in the second case, more “rigid”, suitable for both young and adults.
