William Faulkner, scrittore, poeta, drammaturgo e sceneggiatore statunitense (1897-1962), premio Nobel per la letteratura nel 1949, considerato il rivale di Hemingway. Uno scatto intimista, rubato in un momento di relax,in un posto che potrebbe essere dovunque, lo ritrae in atteggiamento pensoso: l’autore della foto è sconosciuto. Sembra che stia fissando qualcosa o qualcuno di molto lontano, il contegno è misurato ed elegante; una dignità che appartiene decisamente solo ad uomini vissuti in un tempo remoto: è un ritratto che mi ha colpito. Quell’apparente distacco emotivo che non tradisce i sentimenti e uno stile nel sensopiù largo del termine che riguardano al passato, oggi solo accidentalmente trovano un riscontro reale; mi vengono in mente di nuovo uomini di una volta, come Visconti e Pasolini. L’unico italiano contemporaneo cui penso d’istinto, che rappresenta nei modi e nell’attitudine un tratto così nobile, è il giovane e bravo giornalista Angelo Flaccavento. Il contesto si è fatto serio e nostalgico, mi pare riduttivo scrivere frasi del genere “ecco i vestiti più consoni per unire la classe alla disinvoltura”. Tanto più che, la classe, non si apprende.

I must admit that I have a defect: it can take me forever to recognize talent in celebrities. Considering I am a journalist, that is a big deal. Fortunately I write about fashion so in that area I can usually tell when a designer is inventive, even just by looking at a few pieces. Anyway, show business and fashion go together so also celebrities must be considered. Sometimes I have been very good at guessing: for example, I just had to listen to one song by Adele to realize she is an amazing artist and I could tell right away Elio Germano is one of our best actors by watching him play a fairly relevant role in a movie. In the case of David Gandy instead I’m not quite sure about his role…a part from the modelling one obviously, (unlike the two artists I previously mentioned who also pose for glossy magazines). I have met him on set while shooting for Max and I have to say I was struck by his appearance (he’s perfect). However, despite his politeness, he seemed to be so focused on his beauty that he did not to show any other quality. He is probably being successful thanks to Domenico (Dolce) and Stefano (Gabbana) who made him an icon and even managed to make him look classy, creating a unique phenomenon. It’s now up to the english model, (who doesn’t look english at all by the way), to ride the wave of success and maybe take some acting classes, I could see him as the new James Bond, once Craig  will resign. Picture by Giovanni Gastel for Max, David Gandy wearing Dolce & Gabbana.

La collezione P/E di Louis Vuitton è un fulgido esempio di equilibrio tra moda e classico. L’abito doppiopetto è in fresco o grisaglia, le forme sono morbide e fluide, le tinte restano nella palette tradizionale dal mastice al blu luminoso. Il monopetto in seta goffrata invece, è più moda: rimane sempre nei toni del grigio/blu ma con un check tridimensionale che riprende la fantasia damier. La parte più casual prevede di spezzare lo spolverino in nylon e il pullover in cotone, entrambi blu navy, con un largo pantalone cammello. Come sempre, dli accessori sono molto speciali. C’è la brogue in pelle color cuoio degradè, ci sono gli occhiali da sole con le lenti sfumate e una vistosa montatura bluette; e il “Tambur” in acciaio con il quadrante bicolore bianco e azzurro. La pelletteria è in canvas damier graphite o tinta unita, sui toni del grigio; mentre il porta IPad è in pelle liscia, in un lucente azzurro cielo.

The Louis Vuitton S/S collection it’s a perfect example of balance between fashion and tradition. The double breasted suit is made of cool wool or grisaille, the shapes are soft and fluid and the shades are traditional: bright blue and mastic. The embossed silk single breasted suit instead it’s more fashionable: always in the shades of blue-gray but made from a three-dimensional damier checkered fabric. For the more casual side of the collection, the blue navy nylon dust coat and cotton sweater are combined with loose-fitting camel trousers.The accessories are special as usual. A degrade’ buff leather brogue,  sunglasses with gaudy bluette rim and faded lenses and the “Tambour” cronograph made of steel with white and blue bicolor case. The leather goods are in gray solid color or damier graphite canvas and the IPad case is in bright blue soft leather.
