LARRY SCOTT
Larry Scott è stato uno dei modelli più belli del mondo. Adesso abita a New York e fa il fotografo: accetta di essere ritratto sempre più raramente, pur restando sempre un uomo di grande fascino. Ha debuttato verso la fine degli anni ’80: era uno dei primi indossatori non palestrati. Di lui colpivano, oltre all’ aspetto, la sua irriverenza e sregolatezza. Nel 1988 venne fotografato da Gastel per Mondo Uomo, io seguivo lo styling: da Parigi – dove viveva all’epoca – arrivò a Milano con un braccio ingessato, senza preoccuparsi di avvisare (in tal caso sarebbe stato sostituito, ovviamente). Grazie anche alla sua carica di simpatia, non fu cacciato dal set come probabilmente sarebbe accaduto a qualunque altro modello nella medesima situazione, e Giovanni si adoperò per scattare ben 8 posati in cui non si doveva capire che aveva un gesso che andava dal gomito al polso! Una volta in primo piano, un’ altra l’ impermeabile appoggiato sul braccio, un’ altra ancora di profilo dall’ altro lato…..eccetera eccetera. In un’ epoca di modelli quasi tutti gay, faceva eccezione anche su quello. I capelli erano lunghi, naso e labbra sottili, sguardo tagliente: un viso praticamente perfetto, tanto che nel 1996 Armani lo scelse tra molti per la campagna pubblicitaria di Acqua di Giò. Larry è stato il modello più quotato per tutti gli anni ’90, con il suo fisico asciutto poteva tranquillamente indossare qualunque abito e pur non essendo particolarmente alto ha sempre avuto una presenza scenica da top. La sua naturale irrequietezza fa di lui, ancora oggi, uno degli uomini più affascinanti del pianeta.
Larry Scott has been one of the most handsome models in the world. Now he is a photographer and lives in New York, refusing to model anymore if not occasionally, even though he still is an extremely charming man. He started off in the late 80s and he was not a workout-fanatic like most of models at the time, distinguished also for his freshness and naughtiness. He’s been portraied by Gastel for Mondo Uomo in 1988 and I was taking care of the styling. Larry came from Paris, where he was living at the time and he had one arm in plaster. He didn’t even bother to inform anyone, (obviously in that case he would have been replaced). Anyhow, he was such a likeable guy and that saved him from being kicked off the set, any other model probably wouldn’t have been as lucky. Giovanni (Gastel), had to shoot 8 different poses, hiding that arm in plaster: one close-up, one holding a raincoat, one profile pose from the other side and so on. In an era predominated by gay models, he was an exception. Long hair, thin-nosed, thin-lipped, sharp-eyed: such a perfect face that Armani himself chose him for his ”Aqua di Giò” campaign in 1996. Larry has been the most requested model of the 90s, his slender figure allowed him to wear pretty much anything. Although not being particularly tall he had massive stage presence. Still today, his natural restlessness makes him one of the most fascinating men on the planet.
