When the picture is inspired by art. Nadar – pseudonym of Gaspard-Felix Tournachon (Paris, 1820-1910) – caricaturist, friend and source of inspiration of Jules Verne and founder of a satirical magazine. He was also a gallerist: in 1847 he hosted in his studio the first collective exhibition of the impressionists. An eclectic creative talent, known as the pioneer of photography from 1853. Nadar’s works represent the movement from painting to a new form of art, the photography: in Panthéon Nadar, published in 1854, there were the Greatests of that era, from Delacroix to Baudelaire. Nadar is one of the portraitists that has particularly influenced “fashion photography”. The references to that realism are in every fashion magazine from the middle of the 80s to the late 90s. For some of the greatest fashion photographer, Paolo Roversi as first, Nadar’s work is still today an indelible mark, that resists in the era of the transfiguring post-productions of Steven Meisel & Co. Below, on the left, Sarah Bernhardt portrayed by Nadar in 1865; on the right, Francesco Scianna wearing Ermenegildo Zegna Couture.
